Downward

I feel the need creeping back in,
the unnatural urge to call you again.
Guess I just can't leave well enough alone,
or maybe for my sins I wish to atone?

Downward we go,
you lead, I'll follow.
Downward we go, into the hell we created,
downward so far love became hated.
Chasing our tails like lost dogs,
downward we fall through the smog.

You said go, I didn't know why,
to you I clung until I could feel the goodbye,
sinking deep into my bones.
Shattering my heart like a shower of stones
upon the stained glass of a church window

Downward we go,
you lead, I'll follow.
Downward we go, into the hell we created,
downward so far love became hated.
Chasing our tails like lost dogs,
downward we fall through the smog
