The Man Behind the Chaos

A hint of fire beneath the eyes
Joyous laughter amidst the fray
Reveling in the day when order dies
Indulging in the social decay

The insoluble figure stands amidst the rubble

When brother betrays brother
The adjudicater breathes their last breath
Losing the love of a mother
An age when death begets death

He draws closer, though far from defined

Screams echoe in desolate streets
Listen, and hear the dragging of chains
The stranger delights in these treats
He controls the chaos, holding war's reigns

Under the cloak, my face is stowed
Reminding me of a dream I wish would stay dead

Author's Note
This poem has an interesting backstory. It recounts the details of a dream I had, many years ago. It was so surreal and terrifying that I will never forget it. And funnily enough, it is what influenced my name on this site.
