Quilted Skies
Reincarnated, a natural birth
I am peeled from the earth like the flesh of an orange from its skin
Oh, to breathe free for the first time in a while
Lungs inflated, serene
I balloon towards the heavens with the purpose of coming clean
Tears flow into heated rivers along the mountains and valleys of my cheeks and chin
The dirty remains from my resting place have been gently wiped away by dewy grass blades
I let my chest rise and fall, forcing some breaths on command even
And notice a little stone has found its way to the bottom of my heart
I close my eyes and allow the soles of my feet to brush the earth
Soft, yet tough
I stay here a moment, admiring an appearance from the moon, while enjoying a kiss from the sun
Swiftly, the breeze from before my rest returns
Sneaking up behind me with a firm, friendly push
Ahead, a passage laden in red and white, tie-dyed roses reveals itself
A bit nervous to continue, I ask,
"What good is traveling a path which was paved for me without grace and unwavering trust?"
