I Am Cold When You Leave

Animals that live above me are chasing tails again.
My parents drove 4 hours to drop off the dogs.
They told me where they were going
but it must have slipped my mind.
This is their second vacation this year
and it is only January.

The weekend ended and
it’s raining now.
I sat on my cracked leather couch
with a glass of pinot for 3 hours. Alone again.
The wine tasted as good as when I opened it
3 days ago. The TV decided to stop working
my lamp, constantly flickering.
I’m not sure why it felt so cold
the thermostat set to 78.

I thought back to Friday and the last sip
of tequila we drank together
I told you I needed water
You didn’t bring me any, but I knew you wanted to.
We were that couple at the bar
Intertwined, oblivious

I wonder, did you notice that my hair was blonder
since the last time that I saw you?
You noticed there’s no junk food in the cupboard anymore.

Bubs just said he hates valentine’s day
and I hope he changes his mind.
