psalm 11

of andrew; to the chief poet in the wilderness of sin

“The loss of psalmody in the church is one of the early indicators of
the loss of faith.”―Kevin Swanson

invocation
1 there's bush on every side,
and i am lost;
in Jah shall i confide,
amidst the host
2 of darkness that consumes
my heel all night
and, when the day resumes,
cuts short my flight. Selah

exultation
3 tempted much as You were
in this dark place,
my wilderness astir
with every face
4 of dragon trickery
and bait of beast,
i claim the victory
in You released. Selah

satiation
5 stone into bread to feed
my fleshly lust!
for this let me not plead,
as though i must
6 prove You to satisfy
the serpent's dare:
in hunger testify
i of Your care. Selah

ingratiation
7 snake wants me now to prove
that i can fly,
though, for the sake of love,
my Lord did die.
8 the pride of life:  what shame,
should i succumb,
with but myself to blame,
lost from the womb! Selah

adoration
9 snake wants to give me lands
and seas and skies;
the place on which he stands:
lust of the eyes.
10 but i shall worship God,
my Lord, alone,
Whose Holy Staff and Rod
for sin atone.
