Tree of Life
44 of 60 years
Planting trees in a shady garden
Mysteries veiled in metaphors
Desires hidden beneath the bark
As an old dog performs a new trick
Growling under his heavy breath
A hole is dug to bury his bone
Between the roots his seed is sewn
Where verse is born in harmony
Sometimes in rhymes and imagery
Especially when it springs to life
Until it leaves in wind and fall
When the colors of the autumn shine
I will not be here as long as he
Who's seeds grew in the heart of me
Then taught me how to set words free
When my growth truncates I'll fecundate new seeds
But for this day I embrace the mighty poet tree
Planting trees in a shady garden
Mysteries veiled in metaphors
Desires hidden beneath the bark
As an old dog performs a new trick
Growling under his heavy breath
A hole is dug to bury his bone
Between the roots his seed is sewn
Where verse is born in harmony
Sometimes in rhymes and imagery
Especially when it springs to life
Until it leaves in wind and fall
When the colors of the autumn shine
I will not be here as long as he
Who's seeds grew in the heart of me
Then taught me how to set words free
When my growth truncates I'll fecundate new seeds
But for this day I embrace the mighty poet tree
