School On Time
times were slow
but Mama got me to school on time
the telephone was dial-up
oleo took the place of butter
and I had holes in my sweater
Mama couldn't scratch up a dime
we listen to the radio on Saturdays
and ate on paper dishes
Mama had Chemo Therapy...
then died
but Mama got me to school on time
in my dreams talking to God
and then I cried a thousand tomorrows
until I met my Sandi Green Eyes
but Mama got me to school on time
the telephone was dial-up
oleo took the place of butter
and I had holes in my sweater
Mama couldn't scratch up a dime
we listen to the radio on Saturdays
and ate on paper dishes
Mama had Chemo Therapy...
then died
but Mama got me to school on time
in my dreams talking to God
and then I cried a thousand tomorrows
until I met my Sandi Green Eyes
