Mary's Sonnet

From a generation of strong determined women
Mary grew to maturity,
wanting nothing more but to rid herself,
of the domino effects of the family's curse

Mary’s intentions are pure.
She has high dreams and high hopes
for that picture perfect life of her desires.

She married a man that stole her heart away,
pouring out all her heart and soul onto her one true love.

but after years of trying it wasn’t meant to be
For Mary's lover, faithful to another, loves alcohol instead.

This is not the life she envision,
broken hearted like her mother's mothers before her

And like the generations before,
Mary stayed strong for her children,
to make a home and to provide stability.
Mary's dream almost came true, almost.

She sewed her future inside the love of a man and a fairy tale,
What a high price to pay she thought watching
her young daughter, another generation, emerged from the family curse to maturity.
