nihilism, pessimism and buddhism

The nihilists are correct,
the universe is too big to care about you, individually,
and might become an anaconda that will eat you and your entire family,
or a world-killer meteor that could destroy the whole of the earth and all of its gods.
The pessimists are correct,
society is a cycle of less and more harsh oppression,
and authority will use any reason, reasoning, non-reasoning and sophistry to maintain itself.
However, after all this,
     we are here anyway,
so working together to alleviate suffering and promote joy is all the common sense we need.
