The Walking Dead
I should have died
the moment I saw my future without you
for all intent and purpose I am dead to the world
through all the arid years of my life
I found you
but it was not enough
love is never enough to carry the weight of angry tears
and I found myself crippled and blind
if you live with a disability
it becomes part of you
you begin to think of being broken as whole
until the day the mirror reflects the bandages of you mind
you claw at the gauze glued to festering sores
ripping at the dressing,
pieces of you stuck, clinging to the tape
throwing away the memories
then panicking in the trash to save just one smile
while on your knees you start weeping
knowing what you lost can never be found again
the moment I saw my future without you
for all intent and purpose I am dead to the world
through all the arid years of my life
I found you
but it was not enough
love is never enough to carry the weight of angry tears
and I found myself crippled and blind
if you live with a disability
it becomes part of you
you begin to think of being broken as whole
until the day the mirror reflects the bandages of you mind
you claw at the gauze glued to festering sores
ripping at the dressing,
pieces of you stuck, clinging to the tape
throwing away the memories
then panicking in the trash to save just one smile
while on your knees you start weeping
knowing what you lost can never be found again
