In a few minutes,
the phone will ring
at exactly 9 PM.
Answering,
I'll simply
pick it up,
and allow the caller
to broadcast
into the room.
The phone rings,
and I lay the phone
on a glass table.
The voice
on the other end
is heavy
with thought,
anticipation,
and allure.
I say
nothing.
Breathing.
Waiting.
Focus.
Silence.
Waiting.
As. Long. As. It. Takes.
Some fumbling evolves
into stumbling,
and panting.
Fidgeting.
Short bursts
of energy.
Quiet again.
A faint humming mutter.
Semi silence.
And then
a few flourishes,
and then
a mad scramble.
Breathlessness.
Full open moaning,
like letting go
of something tightly wound.
Silence.
I've said nothing,
made no sound
other than
the initial picking up
of the phone.
Silence.
Of a sudden,
a pace begins
in a flurry.
Breathing in.
Pushing out.
Inhale
and exhale.
The phone
on the other end
drops suddenly
to the ground
with a crash,
while the mad dash
flies on
into a final thud.
Breathing,
eventually,
reregulates.
"Thank you."
"Anytime....
an-y-time."
"Good night."
"Good Girl! Night."
