For Timothy
(A Study in Style
I. Short Couplet)
You are my wings, O faithful one
yet as a stone you hold the drum
To deny alluring eyes from sight
to breath the pattern, ever bright.
You tell me I have earned your love
and yet I fail to fit the glove
Of cherishing your brilliant gait
of kissing lips devoid of hate.
Yet here I am and here I’ll be
ever learning, filled with glee.
Your warm and beeswax scented form
awaken me. I search no more.
As long as you will hold me tight
(Distance only a fool’s delight),
I’ll always strive to give to you
my everything, and yet, that’s you.
