Now Should One Praise Believers of  the Past?

Now should one praise
believers of  the past,
believers so with whom
one is obsessed?

To answer this
must we not ask:

Was it not they
who flayed Hypatia of all her flesh
and burned the knowledge held
within the old Serapeum,

encouraged and engaged in  genocide
and rape and pillaging in Deus Vult crusades,

and carried out the European witchcraft craze
within the fierce religious war of 30 years,

the Massacre at Béziers
and slaughtering of Catharites,
the sack of Magdeburg,

the Inquisition and the Pogroms, too
and justified the slaver’s trade
for years and years,

for ages taught the lie that women were
by  God’s design men’s property

that Western white men were God’s chosen race
obliged to “civilize” the nonwhite world,
through violent means,

brought sickness, ethnic cleansing to
the natives of  America,
enforced the trail of tears,

and organized the Ku Klux Klan
and built the concentration camps
to carry out the Holocaust,
(not gays)?

If they through this
built up some nations great
within the world
it was in ways that Jesus never would
have blessed.
