Another Lie
He says that when I’m mused
to set versed words upon a page
it is because
I’m fueled and raged
by jealousy
of his self-vaunted literary aptitude
that he professes is’
displayed within
the way he writes
and that I’m moved
when I peruse his posted poetry
to try my best
(though always sans success, he states)
to imitate
the things that he indites.
Now while it’s true
that on a time or two, I have derived
the **subjects** of my texts
from those of his,
it never is the case
(except in parody)
that how I word my lines
resembles any of his ways
of saying things.
Where within my scribing can
his demonstrated grammar gaffes
be found?
Where is one to see
a replication of the way
he skewers and misuses idioms,
and leaves out words for meter’s sake
Where is it I emulate
his tendencies to solecise his lines
and gut them with the grave mistakes
he’s known to make
in punctuation, spelling too?
Where is it I employ
again and then again
the deictic phrase,
inversions and forced rhymes
or duplicate his “telly” style
his lack of metaphor and simile
and his unknowing of
the meaning of expressions
and of words,
of events in history,
his repetitious use of “so”
or “mum” or “ken” or “men”
within a composition’s whole
and his didactic and
paternalistic, patronizing tone?
None of my submissions show
or ever reproduce these things.
And so his notion that
I duplicate
the (poorly written, woefully mistitled)
substance of his “poetry”
is nothing but an ego saving
unsubstantiated lie.
Note, too,
that when he’s asked to document his claim
he never does. No doubt it's due
to his desire to not reveal
he can’t.
And why?
He knows that if he tried
he’d prove he lacks ability
and any evidence
(lo, not to mention talent requisite)
to justify or validate
his rant.
