After the flight

The head turns up
It smelled the coming fight
Seeing the lion closeup
The antilope turns to flight

She runs for her life
The lion close behind
All she can do to strive
For a way out to find

And after a long day
The predator gives up
The antilope gets away
She drains the victor's cup

Look at her grazing peacefully
Not thinking about the next day
Not dwelling upon past dismay
The sun is all she needs to be

If we could be more like her
Not getting lost on future's shore
Not crashing on the cliffs of past
We might find a peace which could last

Life brings us scenes of fight or flight
No peace here can forever last
But do we stay worried and tight
When the storm has long gone and passed?

If we can find a way to guide
Our heart to rest whenever it can
Then we'll follow a better plan
For stepping from darkness to light

How could I find this way? you ask
You can't ask me, this is your task!
But knowing it's a worthy way
May guide you to the light of day

To learn just like the antilope
To accept whatever the fight
But know to rest and not to mope

After the flight

Author's Note
I think at least some of the sorrow that plagues humans is made by our constant worrying about the future or thinking about the past. If we can learn to rest when we can and not get lost in thoughts of any kind during those precious times where we can rest then we'll have a better life.
