It all depends on you

The ego is the master
That says that this is true:
"If you screw up the world goes down
It all depends on you"

Near and far, far and wide
Only you can turn the tide
Every problem you must pursue
Because it all depends on you

Serious face and every place
Everywhere they know your name
And they will come after you
If you bring upon them shame

Did I say each man on earth?
Nonsense, all the universe!
Knows by heart whom they must sue
Cause it all depends on you

By now you may know where I'm going
By now you may know what I mean
Yes, it all depends on you
For the ego this is true

But the ego is not you

Author's Note
Inspired by the chapter about laughter in "The Book of Joy" describing a week of dialoge between Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama. Our ego wants to believe that everything depends on us, when in reality this is of course not at all the case. We are never alone, and if we can learn to laugh at ourselves our lives will be better.
