Tiptoe Softly

Tiptoe softly around my mind,
lest you knock something of importance.
It’s in a state of delicate balance,
one trip is mental discordance.

Confidence is a fleeting fish,
even when hooked it’s hard to hold.
Snap! with Creativity,
Landing both is as rare as gold.

It’s quite the juggler’s act
maintaining psychic cease-fires,
avoiding cerebral landmines,
dodging psychological trip wires.

Most brains are all tinder and flint,
The daily grind is to avoid the spark,
Mine can be irritable, tetchy and vulnerable,
Sitting silent, encased in the dark.

So mete out your opinion with due care,
Ration your jagged little pill,
Don’t knock my emotional house of cards,
Critics should merely stun, never kill.

Author's Note
When you put yourself out there you are open to criticism. I struggled with it over the years, the music industry is especially difficult unless you "make it". I persevered till MTV licensed one of my albums which changed the tone of the critique. But I often reflect back to those times and wondered how I persisted. Hence, I tread lightly when dealing with other peoples creativity. It's a fragile game. Some critics I find are looking for the kill shot, whereas, the aim should be to merely stun.
