Crepe Bows

The faded twilight of the stillness grows  
as the moon cradles the memories
where shadows played in hawthorns  
of crepe bows on the wings of doves    
silencing the thistle of the piccolos  
awakening the Shenandoah Valley
sweeping dusk from the sleeping eyes
