The Bushwhacker's Amendment

By the good graces of their lordships
And by the leave of the powerful and rich
Small arms are used against small hardships
Like a jock with an incurable itch
Who knows that oversimplification
Stokes the furnace within the gravy train
Of whole nations in an agitation
To rule the backward populist brain;
A brain which thinks the meek are at fault
When they mess with pharmaceutical pills
Instead of the rifles built to assault
All of the unarmed crowds which it kills!

We know the factor we need to control
And it's not the meek or their mental health,
But the gun maker's cynical soul
Which grins when death increases his wealth
And blames the carnage on character flaws
Instead of homicide's enabling clause!
