Long Fingers

As Autumn sets on the dawn of September
leaves falling from the long fingers of trees
as skeletons of summer become shadows
clinging to the grass now naked the hawthorn
bringing a soft blend of troubadour winds
as saints of the goldenrod toss back their hair
with a breath of life's new blessed harvest
of twilight's ghost on the setting of dew
