Aphantasia
You told me once that the
Space behind your eyes,
Like mine, is blank.
That the only thing your mind
Can conjure is this echo
Screaming into an abyss
Ruling your body by paranoia
Keeping feelings deep
But emotions high
Like dropping a stone
Into the open sea
Never to be seen again
Yet still heavy
But this time it was not a stone
But your body weighed
Down by invisible thoughts
Sunken in your mind
Your body not obeying commands
Your open eyes looking past
this ever slowly
Creeping haunting time
Of compete stillness
And perhaps utter darkness
In all of this that is the most dreadful part
For me to know
That you’re a blindfolded captive
Buried in your own body
Drowning in the encompassing reverberation
Of your unseeing eye
I’d like to think that maybe
The universe isn’t so cruel
And that it has arranged for your brain
To engage and create pathways
Of your mind to display
Vividly and beautifully
And that in your imagination you can
Explore the galaxies
That you’ve always heard the hum of
And when you are asleep
You wander to places you’ve always wondered about
That you dive deep into the parts of you that you were always afraid of
But you’re not as scared because now there’s a guide and a light
And when you resurface I hope you hear
Your favorite edgy music and laughter
I left a cigarette on your nightstand
My friend
I hope that your sanity is sunken deep into mystery’s
But mostly I hope that your thoughts resurface
Space behind your eyes,
Like mine, is blank.
That the only thing your mind
Can conjure is this echo
Screaming into an abyss
Ruling your body by paranoia
Keeping feelings deep
But emotions high
Like dropping a stone
Into the open sea
