Promises
When did we learn
Promises mean nothing
We speak them and then
We throw them
Away
Never said
Never remembered
Where do they go
When the words no longer
Matter
When the paper they were written on
Dissolves
When the phone they were texted on
Breaks
When did we decide
Promises used to mean something
But now they no longer do
Now they no longer stay
In sight
They used to made of iron
They used to stand still and shine
Where did they go
Suddenly rusted and frail
Broken
When the concrete they stood upon
Crumbles
When the glory we sang of them
Was a choir
When did we blindly use them
Those promises that slip out of our mouths
Spilling onto blood stained floors
Pooling in the cracks
Drying
Crusty on the carpet
Crowding around the shoes
Caked with dirt
Where the letters we used have no meaning
Running into each other
Crashing
Into pieces
Promises mean nothing
We speak them and then
We throw them
Away
Never said
Never remembered
Where do they go
When the words no longer
Matter
When the paper they were written on
Dissolves
When the phone they were texted on
Breaks
When did we decide
Promises used to mean something
But now they no longer do
Now they no longer stay
In sight
They used to made of iron
They used to stand still and shine
Where did they go
Suddenly rusted and frail
Broken
When the concrete they stood upon
Crumbles
When the glory we sang of them
Was a choir
When did we blindly use them
Those promises that slip out of our mouths
Spilling onto blood stained floors
Pooling in the cracks
Drying
Crusty on the carpet
Crowding around the shoes
Caked with dirt
Where the letters we used have no meaning
Running into each other
