The Candy Jar - 100-word story
Sweet on the tongue and enticing to the eyes. I've sampled so many! How I hunger for new candy, sweet or sour. Just one little nibble please!
“But you have candy at home.”
Damn conscience, I thought, but I’m a great debater of the conscience. A skill perfected in childhood.
“I’ll try just one. To abstain would be too extreme,” I said.
My conscience sulked.
Some were purple and pure, but their sweetness had deceived me before.
Some were hot and fire engine red. I knew they’d be trouble, but good trouble.
A familiar regret haunted me the next morning.
