the spark of latent wealth
Nothing is enough for the man
to whom enough is too little.—Epicurus
more than enough of nothing
plenishes my empty space—
too little of everything,
to deplete God's bounteous grace!
the rivers drink the waters
they once carried to the seas;
old men preserve their daughters
from young men with phantasies.
infants swift-weaned of nipples
find a world of harsh confines,
whose navigation cripples
man’s decrees of laws and lines.
earth trembles neath its earthquakes
to conjure tsunami founts
that ravish high-risk sweepstakes,
where false courage climbs steep mounts.
void as my barren harvest,
reap i from bad seeds i've sown;
my courage stretched the farthest,
where life's purpose-winds have blown.
new daylight set before you
is the spark of latent wealth:
ere time's deep jaws devour you,
mark your steps with prudent stealth.
