Inspiration From Goodbye
"Wait, when were you going to inform US of this?" Mitch, his voice is loud, outraged even.
"A..Are you... Unhappy with us?" Allison, her tone is that shy and lonely thing I so know.
"I mean, I know I'm like... Switzerland and stuff, but I don't like this..." Mallie, this younger boy uses a laid back trembling word though I can tell he is in discontent.
"...I have to agree." Joe, the oldest man here doesn't have much to say but puts his hands in his pockets in worry.
"I'm sorry! I mean, it's only fair, right?" My voice shakes in this judging stand of people, on trial and needing answers.
"I vote BULLSHIT." The outspoken teen sneers in my direction, giving me shivers when he yanks on his hat strings.
"Mitch.." The teens sister quivers and sinks back until looking into my eyes, seeing the fear of losing which is when she places her hands on the rail. "He's right. You can't just... Give us away like some present."
The quartet nods in agreement and I can't help but to lean forward with a sigh, thinking and feeling sweat trickle down my side.
There's a hand on my shoulder and I turn to see the oldest man, smiling at me.
"Hey... If you learned anything from all of this, it's how to stand up for yourself. Don't prove her right by being weak and giving in. That's not who you are. It never was." His voice dies down to a loving and fatherly tone as his grasp heats my soul.
And I was ready to say goodbye, hell no.
"Yeah! C'mon! Don't let us go!" Mitch calls out through the room which is suddenly filling with some kind of yellow light.
"Don't give up." Allison rings and softly sings her words, giving my bones strength for all they've endured.
"Fight the power, man!" Mallie laughs and leans back in his chair, almost falling, giving me a spark of a smile.
"We believe in you." Joe whispers as he backs away into the stands, my heart thumping with something that doesn't make me sick but sing.
I turn and slam my fist on the wood.
"No! These characters are A PART of me! And maybe it took me so long to really realize and remember that, but I do... I love them and you wouldn't know how to think like they do, without thinking of me! You can't have them! I revoke my answer and find inspiration from goodbye!" My voice is outspoken and firm like Mitch's, though soft and subtle like Allison's, not taking forever like Joe's, and a little bit cheesy like Mallie's.
But that's how it is,
When I find characters come from my heart;
Not just my mind.
