I agree. Whether we conceive metaphor or literality, better we apply our energies to calculating the light.

Exactly Em
A concern of mine would also be what we inadvertently put into flight unintentionally simply by repeating the spell

Not much mostly, outside of more or less intentional changes made inside the self of the person who is doing the action of "intentionality" around the incantation in the first place. Possibly even, truth be told, some form of healing. Think of the damaged teenager who is desperate to get away from some form of hate-filled religious fundamentalism riding, hand-in-hand, with violent parental despotism. in that case, the incantation to which so ever allergic demon would actually be the child repudiation of their parent's psychosis, and would act symbolically towards the protection of the child in her being.
For the most part though, the best way to think of most demonic dabbling is as one would think of media consumed. A person whose media diet consists of partaking joyfully in the comedic portion of the subtext of slasher films and other such course, callous, fare, is perhaps going to have their senses of humor coarsened, and some of their other sensibilities in some way (possibly) dulled or obscured. In the greater scheme of things though, nothing more than that. Magical practice is similar. effect of spiritual practice comes down entirely to the effect of its affect upon the operator. Magic is less likely to cause change in the world than it is to cause change in the operator, and any change the operator sees in the world around them as the world interacts with them is due solely to changes in their selves, and in their perceptions, and subsequent (related) changes in their own actions.
Just like prayer an evil person can do evil magic, but it's gonna have no more affect than an evil person producing evil prayers (and a lot of that is completely subjective anyway, and that, often only subjective, depending upon political perspectives. To whit, whatever your take on the Russo-Ukaraine war, you can bet there are plenty of fervent believers on both sides "praying," for the annihilation of the combatants upon the opposing side. Etcetera.)
The most effective prayer is the prayer we make to change ourselves. Prayer can and does have effects upon the world, real effects, sometimes subtle sometimes profound. Which effects though, are almost entirely difficult to measure or quantify, and are only ever verifiable in their actuality by means involving subjectivities. The vast majority effect of any form of prayer, however, is perforce, the effect upon the the person who prays the prayer.
Effective prayer and affective magic are in themselves indistinguishable. An incantation, to say, one Pazuzu is not an invocation to some bestial demonic force. It's merely a prayer to a deity within a pantheon who's worshipers are mostly extinct because of the passage of time. Pazuzu was an honored god of west wind in Mesopotamian times. He had a place with the protector of households. To send a prayer to Pazuzu is merely to send an affirmation that you are invested in the spiritual protection of your household.
Father, Son, Mary, Heavenly Spirit is a pantheon too. It is a living active pantheon, because its many followers exist and are here alive today, and derive spiritual sustenance from interacting with it. My father's Jewish. The pantheon of his religion is a pantheon of one. Adonai. I like a little more diversity than that. I also like the investiture in and of humanity that Christ represents.
The thing about prayer, to call magic what it is, is it operates most effectively upon both the world and the pray-er when connected to a living religion the individual praying does in actuality havedeep emotional connections to. My culture has very little direct connection to ancient Mesopotamian other than the descendence of the still operative cultural dynamics which saw civilization arise there and then progress through successive stages of cultural and technological development (like, writing and empire) to the global point that we are at now. Things are rapidly in flux, as ever, but our era of cultural and technological development takes place at a greatly accelerated rate of passage of time.
Back to the subject of prayer though, it is actually far more effective for me to pray to God for the protection my household then it is for me to pray to a household protector in a pantheon lost since past. And I like the modern update that Christianity applied to human spirituality, ie, that the direct and ultimate spiritual purpose of humanity is Love. And so therefore I am. Personally, I appreciate the Latter-day Saint take upon the metaphorical "Holy Family,", in which the Heavenly Mother, although really spoken of is acknowledged as existing, and as being equally of divine power, agency, and importance within the Creation Narrative as is the Heavenly Father. No implied second place spiritual status, there. I also like the take, as far as I understand it rudimentarily, which conceives of the Christ who might walk upon the earth as not being the same "being of Christ" as the Christ that resides in Heaven who is the Heavenly Christ. But I am just a deeply spiritual person 🤷♀️
I really LOVE what you say in your profile page— "Life's changes are ever affecting us giving us a new perception." The Buddha was all about clarity of perception, and for good reason.
Once upon a time, because of gender (I havr a lot of trouble conceiving of the ultimate [and ultimately, only] available representation of the ultimate divine as existing in the form of a human patriarch), and because of Christianity's strident (and historically often murderous—still so in less civilized parts of the world) prohibition against the acceptance of good in people like me, LGBTQ, I could not touch the name "God" with a 10 foot pole. It took a LOT of work and anguish to get over those two factors. So worship of the judeo-Christian God was out of the question for me for many many years. Those two factors simply HURT too much, and I was not going to yoke my spirituality to hurt. So I through necessity developed spiritual working affinities with and for other historical deities — Astarte, Hecate, Cloacina, and others. But there's nothing deaminic about that either. I also have a longstanding association, through affinity, with Yzeddi. Spiritual is as Spiritual does.
I like church, synagogue, temple, and mosque a lot. Mostly because I like community, and I love participating, communally, in worship, celebration, thanksgiving, and prayer. But I can also do all of that, all day long, without a church over my head. And so that is what I do.

Thank you! Faith and Spirit are the subjects I spend all of my time dwelling within.
I've spent the last 1/2 hour tinkering with the comment, so it is a little different in content, but not substance.
It is very nice to make your acquaintance. Blessings and Love 🙏💕

Nice rhythm
And quite relevant for social media lovers
Demonic incantation indeed
Reading and repeating a vicious, or just "juicy", rumor often enough can damage the reputation and psyche of the target in irreparable ways
You don't hafta use the Devil's name to be Demonic
