Impossible Love

You come
when I don't expect you
then leave me broken
and drowning
in an ocean polluted by desire
If only I could turn off your light
but wishes and words
form for fools like us
to keep alive the fire
Our impossible love
makes martyrs
knows no reason to tire
of verses that smoulder and burn
while the mail train rumbles
at four am
and the lines etch echoes
ever deeper
into the night
