Mimic

Heart broke while I'm peeking,
Much better at pretending
Or singing white lies while blinking,
I have to let it out.

Count the guilt on a hand:
Overwhelmed, overdone and overrated.
Don't expect to understand,
That's the curse of becoming so jaded.

Thankful while I am bruising,
Gutted is the path I'm choosing
Like ashes flowing in the breeze,
I have to let it out.

Tried to be the better man.
Shut the hatch quick before you're baited.
That's not the hymn of a lamp
That's the hiss of a candle smoldered, faded.

Like thunder stirs, striking
Like wolves prowl while hungry
Like leaves curled now rotting,
I have to let it out.

Piranhas wait behind eyes listening;
Swarming in black mists of frenzy
I feel it snake beneath the skin,
I have to let it out.
