cotton candy sky
Only from the heart can you
touch the sky.—Rumi
it is a cotton candy sky
i'll eat until i die;
of red and grey and orange hues—
there's nothing to refuse.
beneath my cotton candy sky,
soon i shall learn to fly;
i'll be a skylark, i suppose,
but not an albatross
sometimes, my cotton candy sky
breaks down and starts to cry;
i sing a rainsong, and the tears
withdraw their fretful jeers.
God made the cotton candy sky
for children such as i,
who have no bounty of our own,
not being yet full grown.
someday, the cotton candy sky
and i may bid goodbye;
but, when i wake from night’s brief sleep,
into his arms i'll leap.
