My friendly crush
Some time ago I realized that I had fallen for someone.
Someone I’ve wanted since the first day her beauty graced my sight line
Someone who I formed a supportive friendship with
Someone who over the last few months I’ve grown much respect and admiration for.
Someone who has me reconsidering my stance on certain decisions I made about my life.
Would you ever get married again?
Naw not for me boo
Would you have more children?
Oh no no no I’m through.
For years that was my mindset… until I met her
And although we aren’t together like that
For me her words of motivation are all the rage,
They gave me the courage to get up on this stage
And challenge my fear, of hundred of eyes live, all looking in my direction.
Of course I’ll keep hope that one day we will be together
But if not we have a bond that’s strong
Whether she’s my partner or just a friend
I’ll still treat her like a queen because
I’m a descendant of southern gentlemen
My soul is old
Give her my jacket when the weather’s cold
You sit down before I sit
Little mama walk on the inside, I’ll take the hit
But reality is we may never get there.
I’ll still cherish all this time we have
One day she may be with another man
But I tell you one thing
To the relationship he better know how to bring the synergy,
Matter of facts the motherfucker better channel my energy
Because I’m putting the bar high
And I won’t be mad nor sad.
Because her happiness is my primary concern
If that man can keep a smile on her face
That is something I would never want to erase
They would only get my respect and grace
Cuz I’m a man who knows how to stay in my place
Someone I’ve wanted since the first day her beauty graced my sight line
Someone who I formed a supportive friendship with
Someone who over the last few months I’ve grown much respect and admiration for.
