My childhood friend died
not long after we
crossed an unknown
threshold to find
intimacy with each other.
I treasure that memory
and I’m thankful that
her saltiness still lingers
on my tongue.

My daughter wrote this about her friend who died two years ago. She still treasures their time together. The illustration is a pencil drawing I asked an artist to do from a photograph of them out on the night shortly before her death. My daughter is on the left.
