So the person stole a small bottle of perfume worth 150$? Or, as in organized group, high end fashion stuff from women stores? I would like to know how you can write a 300 plus pages crime novel around that. Difficult to keep the interest unless, as you mention, it hides something gruesome.

Reminds me of a line from PD James: “It’s much more interesting to know who brutally killed Aunt Augusta than who stole her necklace while she was on holiday in Bournemouth.” Or Colin Dexter’s response: “I find it hard to commit to 300 or so pages when someone’s stolen a tin of salmon from the supermarket.”
