Neighbour
Neighbour
You don’t care when you block her driveway,
trample on her marigolds and day lilies;
angry, you think that she can’t stand men, insult
her with words you wouldn’t say to your own family.
I have her over for spiced chai tea, and
honey-graham biscuits while you went
fishing this past weekend, she helped me
pick weeds, and paint the porch swing
earthy orange
I smile a hundred ways in her direction
when you snort something sounding
oddly like ‘you can’t fix stupid’; hold my
car keys a little closer to my body.
