The Last Supper in Suburbia

‘Happy Meal’ for two
Served by an obsequious waitress.
Orders written around her neck.

McAbattoir plastic boxes
Reliquary of ballistics and bone.
Mockingbird crucified
On a white picket fence.

Galleanisti gastronomy,
Da Vinci’s strokes deliquesce
Humility into an avarice canvas.
Disciples would later wear trilbies
Thirty pieces of bitcoin,
Cross splinters sold on e-Bay
.

Quietness is coming, its
Certainty is sure.
Old Sparky rode into town.

Vanzetti terminal
In vivisection temple,
Electric shock therapy
For social hard-of-hearing.

Shoemaker Sacco once lost
In an Apulian field, feet cobbled
And heeled to a portentous lightning storm.
His teenage sweetheart
Supped the bitterest wine,
Breaking bread with pigeons
In a desolate Square.

The last sip of tea
Tastes of the creek water
Where gold panners had drowned.

Author's Note
Ferdinando Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were Italian-born American anarchists who were convicted controversially of murdering a man during 1920's. Executed in electric chairs 7 years later. The two men's last meals: requested and dined on some soup, a cup of tea, a plate of meat, and some toast.
