Circulus in Definiendo
Wood smoke dangles under the moon,
On silent quadrature nights,
Which hazily sets way too soon
For full observation delights.
But in the east Orion strides
As if to fetch the Pleiades
Out of the drift of zenith tides
Far colder than the polar seas
Which long for Luna's evening dive
Into the zodiac ocean
Where long lost gods remain alive
In constant heavenly motion...
Where gravity, it seems to me,
Plays host to all eternity!
On silent quadrature nights,
Which hazily sets way too soon
For full observation delights.
But in the east Orion strides
As if to fetch the Pleiades
Out of the drift of zenith tides
Far colder than the polar seas
Which long for Luna's evening dive
Into the zodiac ocean
Where long lost gods remain alive
In constant heavenly motion...
Where gravity, it seems to me,
Plays host to all eternity!
