Holding Still
Feeling darkness
my historic lore
resting in my bones
trauma keeps score
Smothering the light
disarming my belief
perpetual mourning
no relief
Haunting visions
innocence didn’t last
silent invasions
confronting my past
And fractured by
secrets unspoken
harrowing memories
but never broken
In resilience
I shall rise
as I am more
than unheard cries
Finding solace
from within me
self-forgiveness
will set me free
Fault not mine
I see now I’m grown
the shame I carried
not for me to own
No longer masking
all I am feeling
holding still
as I am healing

I enjoyed the meter and rhyming in your poem. It was very well thought out as I imagined this a difficult subject. I appreciated the notion of inner turmoil turning into forgiveness and eventually moving on. Wonderful piece. H🌷

I am super chuffed to already you again❣ I've missed your words.
I enjoy rollercoaster rides and this is one of my favorites. In the first four stanzas you plummet into the depths of despair only to, by your own inertia, breathtakingly rise rise rise with the next four gems into a happy, confident stratosphere. Bravissima, lovely poet❣

Oh dear Gahddess,
Thank you for your response. It is still a roller coaster for me as well. I try to apply what I know but always easier said than done. I’m trying to be still. It goes against my nature but is what I must do. My biggest break through was accepting that just because I think it doesn’t make it true. I have not written in a while but have decided to try again. It’s lovely to hear from you dear friend. Stay strong! Bless

What I meant to write was "I am super chuffed to read you again"😁 But you already knew that. Yes, stillness is one of my greatest challenges. Our minds can be such traps sometimes and distancing ourselves from something so integral to our being is tough but not impossible. Write on❣
