Retrograde Nights
All is memory, faded or fading,
And the present but a membrane of fate
Where the future for the past is trading
At a far too precipitating rate...
Seemingly placed for adversity's sake
Afflicting the rich and the poor alike
And regularly marked by a daybreak
When sunbeams epiphenomenally strike
The brief portraits of a wonderful life
Hanging in a gallery of decay
Too soon defaced by the nihilist knife
Of another viciously entropic day,
Making happiness an uphill climb
Reversed by love and a measure of rhyme!
And the present but a membrane of fate
Where the future for the past is trading
At a far too precipitating rate...
Seemingly placed for adversity's sake
Afflicting the rich and the poor alike
And regularly marked by a daybreak
When sunbeams epiphenomenally strike
The brief portraits of a wonderful life
Hanging in a gallery of decay
Too soon defaced by the nihilist knife
Of another viciously entropic day,
Making happiness an uphill climb
Reversed by love and a measure of rhyme!
