Azanke Moon 🌙
The Azanke Surname originated in Nigeria and is a word in the zulu language that is used as a conjunction to connect clauses or sentences or to coordinate words in the same clause.
It's meaning is "I have never."
On the morning of May 10th my second eldest brother James aka Junior aka AZANKE MOON died, and on Thursday June 8th 2022, Ihe was laid to rest in the city of Saint George's on the Caribbean Island of Grenada 🇬🇩 and as part of his eulogy I read this poem, penned the previous night in his honor.🎖
Beloved Brother "I have never" known you the way I wanted to
You were always far away in my youth
I heard your name and yearned to see your face
Beloved Brother I have never known your life story until recently
we tarried along the carnage side by side
"Neil and Nigel yall remember the pole they use to oil at Christmas with the ham
Man use to slip and bust they tail into the water"💧
We laughed out loud, zanke was pure kicks eh!
Azanke Beloved Brother I have never not known you after that visit
Your travels to Barbados 🇧🇧 and Haiti 🇭🇹 and many other places are documented with me
Azanke I have never not known your life experiences as a child in carriacou after that visit
Azanke was an avid reader
He loved his family and was cool as a breeze
Rastaman vibration we skanking on the wharf
Jah bless kings and Queens, I dey, I cooling, and everything Irie
The call and response on our evening limes.
Azanke Moon died Tuesday Morning 🌄 😪
And I haver never felt a thurt as terrible
His smile 😃 was euphoric
His voice cheerfully resonates
In my thoughts
Azanke, Beloved Brother I hear you
Azanke, Beloved Brother, I see you
They say love of family is perhaps the best example of love one can ever know.
James Whitfield Junior Nicholson knew love and was able to give love.
Azanke Moon will forever be that cascading sunlight rising up every morning and setting in the evening along the Caranage and across the lush Caribbean landscapes
he is the moonlight ✨ illuminating the darkness with his smiling eyes
we can see Zanke both day and night reminding us, although he does not exist physically he is not non existent.
Beloved Brother James Whitfield Junior Nicholson your family have never not loved you and you will be miss more than anyone can ever imagine. 💙
