When my Childhood Drowned
Every time we drown
We still try to breathe
You see
We go to this place
To escape the chill that fills our bones
And creates a hollow that slowly empties
All the stones
And the fortune cookies of our future
Crumble to the bottom of the sea
Like shells that break
Coral that cuts
And the noise of yesterday's train
Rumbles within our house
You can feel it in your chest
Empty cavern of ribs
There is nothing else to feel in there
Because we're drowning underneath
When we should be floating
Hands on mouths
Keeping in our teeth
We still try to breathe
You see
We go to this place
To escape the chill that fills our bones
And creates a hollow that slowly empties
All the stones
And the fortune cookies of our future
Crumble to the bottom of the sea
Like shells that break
Coral that cuts
And the noise of yesterday's train
Rumbles within our house
You can feel it in your chest
Empty cavern of ribs
There is nothing else to feel in there
Because we're drowning underneath
When we should be floating
Hands on mouths
Keeping in our teeth
