Sleepless
If you were in my city
(Which you very well could be
Or have been recently
for all I know),
You wouldn’t even look me up
Would you?
This realization hit me
Tied itself around me
Like a bag of bricks
As I tried to swim to you
This noon.
(Perhaps you’d taken flight…)
Now my tears
Add to the ocean depths
In which I sink.
I would have liked to think
You’d try.
Why lie
to myself?
(Which you very well could be
Or have been recently
for all I know),
You wouldn’t even look me up
Would you?
This realization hit me
Tied itself around me
Like a bag of bricks
As I tried to swim to you
This noon.
(Perhaps you’d taken flight…)
Now my tears
Add to the ocean depths
In which I sink.
I would have liked to think
You’d try.
Why lie
to myself?
