Talkin' to Myself and Feelin' Old
March was Women’s History month and April National Poetry
So I delved into my favorite songs from the past, new and old
Picked a variety of female artists and their beautiful voices
Remembering the special melodies that touched my soul
It was hard to choose with so many talented performers
Especially when music played a big part throughout the years
Each one of those meant something at each stage in my life
Cherishing fond recollections that ranged from smiles to tears
But I chose Karen’s song to be the last one on this list
Her voice was so angelic and heartbreaking at the same time
Maybe because her sound is timeless and so inspiring
But also because the world lost a star while in her prime
(And she was one hell of a drummer)
From pop to rock to blues to jazz and folk, I listened to it all
Classics that have spanned throughout the decades and charts
Tunes that make people swoon, from the young to the mature
Reliving moments that either broke or mended willing hearts
Here’s to the women who play vital roles in all of our lives
Their music, their artistry, their influence on the human race
And to you dear reader, may you relive some special moments
When you listen to the music that your soul has embraced
