Past Revisited

My visit to the old hometown
Lasted only for seven hours
When I went there last week
Such a short time to make up
For the long years of absence

But it was enough to reconnect
With the place that housed my past
And pay a brief visit to my mother's grave
Even an hour would have still sufficed
For my longing to see her tomb

A quick glance at the whole town
Told me nothing much had changed
I saw the same faces though older
The same houses that have withstood the test of time

Seeing the whole place again
Brought a warm feeling and nostalgia
The place where I had most of my early memories will always be home to me

I cannot untangle myself from my roots
The past will always weave its way to my present
I have to look back to it every now and then
To remind myself of my history
