SHE

She was there
Walking in silent steps
Leaving no trace
She was ever there
In your bed
So you woke up
Alone and listened
But all you heard was quiet
She wasn’t there
With all her fire
Breathing life into your lungs
But she’d be back
She always came back

But did you know that when she left
She left with her thoughts
She never left them on the hook
For you to find
And did you know
She took with her all tears that she’d cry
When you left and left
Her all alone

She was there
Always giving you the best
She had
The best cut of meat,
The best side of the bed
She’d let you eat first
Then she’d go
Make her own food and eat alone
But all you saw was pitfalls
Things that she’d done wrong
And you’d say
Why don’t you do it this way
I’ve told you time and time again

But did you know that when she left
She left with her thoughts
She never left them on the hook
For you to find
And did you know
She took with her all tears that she’d cry
When you left and left
Her all alone

She was there
Raising your kids
Showing them so much patience
And teaching about
Their own kind hearts
She was there, in their lives
Picking up the pieces
After their mom left
So they’d no longer wet the bed
But all you found were mistakes
Why did she scold them
Why did she not pick up their things
Why did she think they couldn’t do
Just what they want

But did you know that when she left
She left with her thoughts
She never left them on the hook
For you to find
And did you know
She took with her all tears that she’d cry
When you left and left
Her all alone

Now she’s not there
And the silence that she gave you
Now fills an entire home
And all the best pieces of herself
That you’d hoped she leave behind
Have up and flown

But did you know
If you’d listened in the silence
If you’d given up the best side
Maybe she’d still be there
And did you know
If you’d told her you would help her
Raise those kids to put their own things away

She might still be there
She might
Still be there
