Running In Place

I've been out on the road for my whole life
I tried to get out ahead of the pack
And only got out of the way
But still I kept on running
I gave up the only woman I ever loved
Believing that I needed to concentrate
On winning the game
And couldn't spare the passion
And now my passion has waned
But I've been running so long
That I've forgotten my way home
And there's nobody there to go home to
So now it seems like the road closes in on me
There are no more bright vistas to see
And the fast lane is too fast for me
But what else can I do but keep running
If I stop there's nothing left to do but die
And it's better to run than give up
I'll get to the end of the road soon enough
And see what I've been running from
