From Afar
The kindness you have shown me
Lifts this tattered soul
Like a sail feeling the air for the first time
I feel the breeze when your words reach me
The direction of my sails have forever changed
The possibilities that have formed internally
Of a life where we have a chance to be
Something more than can ever be
Yet creeps into the motion pictures
Of my mind
Scenes of hands held and shared secrets
Running in the rain and laughter raised
Feeling that soft hair on my chest
As we entertain our restless minds
With songs and movies made anew
In the moment
We could have been so much more
Than the moment we said hello
We could have been so much more
Than the moment we say goodnight
There’s so much potential it hurts
To ignore the chemistry boiling over
In another life and in another time
Our souls would have fit like one
Two into one
And this sail is on this ship
So distant and out in the storm
You are the lighthouse
And I can only stare in awe
As you warn me off of the dangers
Lying just below the surface
Waiting to swallow me up
Knowing that we will never be
As your soul radiates light
So beautiful I want to cry
Because there is no respite
For lighthouses are not meant for the sea
And sails are not meant for land
So as we find each other in the night
I know that it will never be
Can never be
Yet I continue
To admire you from
