Down, but not Out

Once, but not now… or was it fantasy
that drove the mind to forging constructs wild
that fuelled by whim, peer’s tolerance, beguiled
into delusions of felicity?
The time has gone… or did reality
let this one slip its fate, then coyly smiled,
as it caught up, then hindsight rightly filed
mistaken acts against society.
At first the storm was bracing in its might,
   the thrill associated with dispute,
although this led to existential blight
as conflicts grew internal - vain pursuit.
    Today numb stasis minimises pain
whilst taking survey of a bleak terrain.
