Riches to Rags in Retrospect

To think self wronged by fate was once so sweet,
imagined place in vanguard of those right,
each loss perceived small setback in just fight,
proud boast of laying blame at others feet.
But then to realise the self-deceit,
an actual role as vanguard of the blight,
the deeds of whom just loathing should incite,
the shame of shouldering the blame complete.
Such stark reversal in objective worth
remains the rocket fuel of Hollywood -
    recasting fortunes forms escapist dream.
And yet a fall from stars to sordid earth
seems by their moguls little understood -
perhaps if we persist, a common theme?
