At the rummage sale of my soul

With my bones
so carefully arranged
My memories enticingly displayed
My dreams and desires,
hates and fears
are just two for a dollar
Shoppers pick and choose
and bargain me down,
until I give myself away
Is this the value of my life,
just pennies on the dollar?
the sum and total
of a life spent looking for love
and in finding it
to just give it all away
Thinking my life is priceless,
never realizing
it's a buyers market
I make this solemn vow,
to find my worth
within our humanity
and never sell myself cheap
at the rummage sale of my soul
