The wonders at my feet

I don't know what the future brings
But in this moment my heart sings
This moment is what makes it beat
These are the wonders at my feet

The quiet on a park bench
The rhythm of the wind
The pages that tell stories
The coffee in my hand

It is not tomorrow
Not milestones, not events
Not fireworks or festivals
It's what a quiet moment sents

The struggle is what makes me weep
But the rest is what makes my heart beat
Together they create the gems
The wonders at my feet

To use and rest is divinity
There can be no eternity
Of just struggle, or just leisure
It's both defines humanity

For what I do I do for love
Of others and my inner child
To help them, keep it safe from harm
It is for this that I will arm

Me with self-worth, the good I've done
In everything it brought lives on
I may bring harm, I'm just a man
Who tries to do all that he can

But if I fall
I fall into the nets I built below my tightrope

The struggle is what makes me weep
But the rest is what makes my heart beat
Together they create the gems
The wonders at my feet

I think about an age old wisdom
It's there for all of us to listen
Too much of rest or too much use, both breaks the spine

It's only balance that's divine

Author's Note
As much as I sometimes don't like to work because of all the anxiety it brings, without work the quiet times wouldn't be as precious and beautiful as they are.
