“Go”

It is the light at the end of my intention
To give you every vestige of attention.
I know it never will be. I know it never
Will be an understanding. This is not forever.
But I want to know you someday,
And I understand if that scares you away.

It makes so much sense that it’s not fair—
Why when I wake you never will be there.
It’s the way I tell my story that cuts you.
It’s the intellectual that draws me through
The rain…but there is no bond of emotion—
It’s the way I never back down from devotion
That is so crippling those perfect for me
And I know, if you weren’t so scared, you would agree.

But I just need you to confess
That when I speak you want me less.
I don’t need the silence, but the word
Since the loudest whisper I’ve ever heard
From you so many miles from here,
Where you approach just to disappear.
I know how sad it must be, I know
How sad it was to be here, just long enough to go
And I want to know you someday…
And I understand if that’s what scared you away.
